PSA: Illinois Law – Employer Gives You Time to Vote

And other smart voting tips for Tuesday…

Attention Illinoisans:
For those of you who are worried you won’t be able to get out tomorrow, or are trying to find an excuse not to vote, this just in from Findlaw: Illinois law mandates that your employer give you two hours (unpaid time) to go vote.  Providing that your working hours begin less than 2 hours after polls open and end less than 2 hours before they close.  Polls open at 6AM and close at 7PM.

Do not wear political gear inside the polling place.  Bring two forms of ID (voter card does not count).  If your vote is challenged, and you don’t have two forms of ID on you, but have the time, do not fill out a provisional ballot.  Go get your ID and come back.  If you fill out a provisional ballot, you’ll have to show proof of ID at some point anyway.  Here’s a good clip from Rolling Stone Magazine on why you shouldn’t fill out a provisional ballot.
