Backpacking Gear Round-up: May 2009
In preparation for my May backpacking trip, I’ve rounded up most of my gear:
- Kelty 5600 Backpack
- Camelback water bladder
- -30 degree sleeping bag
- MSR Hubba Hubba Tent – 2 man tent with sizable vestibule for backpacks. 4lb 11oz full weight, split between 2 people it’s a little over 2lb a pop.
- Foam Sleeping Pad
- Frogg Togg rain gear – more breatheable than any North Face or Columbia rain gear I’ve ever worn, and durable. Â On my last backpacking trip, the co-leader showed me his Frogg Togg gear that he’d had for over 2 decades. Â Still going strong!
- Various clothing for cold and warm weather
- Bowl, as well as my nifty spoon/fork/knife
- Head lamp
- Inflatable pillow
- Komperdell Titanal Contour hiking poles – More choke on the felt handles, meaning that I don’t have to constantly adjust the poles for uphill/downhill hiking, but rather can adjust with hand position.
- Various extras (first aid kit, bungee cords, rope, backpack shell cover, etc.)
I’ve bolded all the gear I find most helpful, and tried to give a brief description of why. Â Do you have any favorite gear, or questions about the stuff I use? Â Shoot me a line.
