5 Sustainable, Outdoors Projects for the Summer
With spring in effect, and summer soon to follow, we’re all thinking about going outside. Here are a few projects that you can do to keep yourself productive while you’re enjoying the sun.
- Grow indoor herbs – As a post states, this is a good way to start your collection without having to clear any ground in your back yard.
- Worm composting – I’m having a hard time deciding if this is something I’d be willing to do, and where to put it if I go ahead with it. Either way, it’s a great idea, and an easy way to get into composting.
- Grow potatoes the easy way – This requires a little more space than some people might be willing to sacrifice, but I might try it for a year and see how it goes.
- Build a coldbox/seedhouse – We’re replacing the sliding door on the side of my house, so it would be a great opportunity to see if we could reuse it for a project like this. If it doesn’t work, I’ll end up building a more serious greenhouse the year after this.
- Build a rain collector w/ barrels – Probably my most ambitious project, and the best for the environment. I’m deciding whether digging a hole and hooking the barrel(s) up to a pump, or simply using gravity to feed my hoses, will be the best.
What projects are you considering for the summer?
